Peanut Butter Lips - The Cool-Toned Nude Redefined by K-Beauty 2026

The 2026 K-beauty lip trend highlighted by Bustle and Coveteur. Explaining the charm of 'muted' lip makeup with a grey undertone added to beige-brown, and the blurred lip technique.

The Evolution of Mocha Mousse, Why Peanut Butter?

Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2026, 'Mocha Mousse (17-1230)', is a warm, cosy cacao brown. However, K-beauty did not adopt this directly, but evolved it in its own direction.

The 'K-beauty Peanut Butter Lips' analysed by Bustle.com (2026) is a beige-brown that is brighter and cooler than Mocha Mousse, with a grey undertone added. In the Korean beauty scene, this is referred to as 'Muted-tone makeup' or 'Ash Nude,' signifying a uniquely 'refined and metropolitan atmosphere.'

Clearly distinguished from caramel or warm browns, the core characteristic is creating a low contrast with the skin by lowering saturation and mixing in a cool grey tone.

Blurred Lip, The Technique of Erasing Boundaries

Another core element of the Peanut Butter Lip trend is the application technique. What Coveteur, Marie Claire UK, and Confaloniericosmetica all highlighted is the 'Blurred Lip' technique.

The blurred lip involves first applying a lip liner, then gently diffusing the edges with a finger or cotton swab, before lightly layering the lip colour on top. Instead of a sharp outline, naturally spread edges create a 'lived-in' lip.

NSS Magazine (2026) analysed that this technique aligns with 'Gen Z's aesthetic sensibility that values spontaneity over precision.' A naturally faded, slightly worn finish appears more refined than a perfectly filled-in lip.
